This is a classic album that's always on the list of must-buys for jazz listeners.
Today, I had the chance to compare the old OJC recording with the original.
I'm used to listening to OJC, so I listened to the original first.
Huh? Something's different...
Looking more closely, I noticed the record numbers are different.
OJC is known for using the original master, so I thought I'd simply compare the sound quality, but these two clearly have different masters.
I think the performance is the same, but the sonic characteristics are clearly different.
(OJC was inexpensive but had great sound, which I appreciated (although the more recent releases have gotten more expensive).)
So, back to the topic at hand,
OJC is S7532, and the original is S7018!
As for the sound,
the original has a simple sound! In other words, it's recorded as is!
OJC has slightly edited, so this one tastes better, don't you think?
I've always liked this Pepper OJC because of its great performance and sound.
Considering the expansiveness, brightness, and simplicity of the original that I listened to this time, this is also very nice.
Listening to OJC after listening to both sides of the original, it was good in its own way, but I got the impression that the energy was slightly reduced and the sound image was a little small, perhaps because of a little reverb? Or panning to the left or right? Or a difference in the quality of the record?
All of the OJC recordings were from around 1990? I have famous recordings by Bill Evans and others, but compared to other Japanese recordings, the sound image seems a little small.
What are your impressions?
