New records or Old records

In my experience, most audiophiles started listening to new records (at the time) and tried to improve the sound quality.

Then they split into two groups.

○ Those who tried to listen to good-recorded records with good sound.

○ Those who tried to listen to good-performed records with good sound.

Do you agree with this classification?

Which group are you in?

This is not a question of which is better or worse. It's a personal question of which you prefer.

In my case, I'm the latter.

Of course, I also test products using new, well-recorded records, but I usually listen to old-recorded records.

The reason is simple: I like the performances of those days. I can hear great performers.

Recording is extremely simple. It gives a certain sense of life. Record makers made a lot of effort to reproduce better sound for listeners. Recording technology may have advanced since the past, but I think that engineers and producers in the past worked very hard to make the music appealing to us. Thanks to advances in technology, recordings today are clearer and more vivid, as reflected in the realism of the tone, but I feel that recordings from the past have an advantage when it comes to the vividness that evokes the experience of a specific venue, including a concert.
